Dive Flags/Floats

Dive Flags/Floats

Postby bryanaho on Wed Feb 28, 2007 10:17 pm

Hi Gang,

So, I'm thinking of getting a dive flag and float for my Oklahoma dive trips.

Does anyone have any experience with these and any suggestions?

I sort of like the innertube covered with fabric with a pocket for weights in the middle where the flag attaches style. I also am wondering what is the best way to tie to it... would a finger spool be appropriate, or something more like a cord reel? What size of line does one need? 1/4" poly or cave line?

I appreciate the insights :^)

a finger spool would probably be less bulky than a reel used for wreck penetration. Mike and I have a buoy that is nothing more than a dive flag attached to a cylindrical piece of some type of styrofoam. It's a compact design, yet the flag is quite visible.

the inflatible floats are nice because many of them have a small storage area for weights, lights, etc. and you can deflate them so they take up less room when travelling or when sitting around on dry land collecting dust.

Hi Teri,

Thanks for the advice on the dive flag! The one you sold me on Friday worked out great at Lake Murray on Saturday! I liked the storage in the middle, as I was able to adjust my weights while out at our divesite.

It was actually pretty cool... I was able to drop about 8 pounds from my rig, and store the extra in the flag float.

Thanks again for the advice!

wow, dropping 8 lbs off your rig is good news! It sounds like you are getting very comfortable in the water. :)

post your review on diving Lake Murray in the USA Landlocked category.
